INFLUENZA

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious viral infection that primarily affects the respiratory system. It is caused by influenza viruses, with the most common types being influenza A and influenza B.

Treatment

Rest: Get plenty of rest to help your body recover.

Hydration: Drink fluids like water, herbal teas, and clear broths to stay hydrated.

Over-the-counter medications: Medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce fever, relieve body aches, and alleviate headaches. However, over-the-counter cough and cold medications are generally not recommended for children.

Antiviral medications: Prescription antiviral drugs, such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu), may be prescribed. These medications work best when taken within the first 48-72 hours of symptom onset.

Symptom relief: Gargling with warm salt water, using throat lozenges, using saline nasal sprays, and using a humidifier can help alleviate sore throat, nasal congestion, and cough.
